Ready for your next getaway? I’m just back from my summer trip to Tenerife, and I’m already planning another one – I can’t resist it! You know I love helping my clients to feel their best, so I thought I’d share a simple summer holiday checklist to keep your holiday smooth, stress-free, and enjoyable from the moment you book to the moment you land. Like everything in life, a little preparation goes a long way…
Your Summer Travel Checklist
Before you even start packing your suitcase, there are a few essentials to tick off:
- Get your travel insurance sorted early. It’s one of those things people leave until the last minute, but it’s so important. Make sure it covers everything you need, especially if you’ve got activities planned or any pre-existing medical conditions. The sooner you’re covered, the better.
- Book with ABTA or ATOL protection. This gives you peace of mind that your holiday is financially protected. If anything unexpected happens, you’re covered, which is something you definitely want when travelling abroad.
- Check your passport validity. This catches people out every year, especially with children’s passports which expire sooner. Many countries now require at least six months validity from your date of travel, so don’t assume you’re fine – double check well in advance.
- Confirm your luggage allowance. Every airline is different, and baggage rules can be stricter than you think. Check weight limits and cabin bag sizes before you travel, directly on the airline’s website, to avoid unexpected charges at the airport.
- Book airport parking ahead of time. It’s usually cheaper when booked in advance, and you’ll also have more choice of reputable providers. It just removes one more thing to worry about on the day.
Smart Packing Tips
Once the admin is sorted, it’s time to think about packing (the fun part… or not, depending on how you feel about it!).
- Buy toiletries at your destination. This is a light-bulb idea I had this holiday to help me travel light. Pick up your sun cream, shampoo, and other essentials when you arrive instead of weighing down your suitcase.
- Pack a small essentials bag – chargers, documents, medication, and anything you can’t afford to lose – and always keep this in your hand luggage.
- Plan your outfits in advance, and go mix-and-match rather than separate outfits for each day. This helps avoid overpacking and makes getting ready on holiday much easier.
A Little Extra Tip from Me
I always recommend getting your beauty treatments done to a specific timetable before you travel, whether that’s nails, waxing, or a spray-tan.
